SUMMARY:Women Only Welding with Becca Flis
DESCRIPTION:Women Only Welding w/ Becca Flis\n$150.00\n\nThis workshop is specifically for women\, those who identify as women and is (you guessed it) taught by a woman! \nIn this intensive workshop participants will observe and practice several fundamental techniques used in metal fabrication. Time will be split between demonstration and assisted hands-on practice. The instructor will demonstrate the safe and proper use of a variety of equipment\, then students will choose metal scrap material to create a sculpture of their own design. Techniques covered include heating\, bending\, and cutting using an oxy-acetylene torch\, cutting using a plasma cutter\, and MIG welding. \nThis one-day\, six-hour workshop is available for beginners with no prior experience but is also useful for people with some prior experience as well. \nStudents must wear closed-toed shoes\, have hair tied\, a hat or bandana (recommended)\, and long pants. Wear natural-fibered clothing like cotton\, hemp\, linen\, wool etc- synthetic fabrics have tendency to melt and catch fire. \nSkill Level: Beginner (No experience required)\nMinimum Age: 13+\nSix Students Max\nWorkshop Fee: $130\nMaterials Fee: $20\nTime: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM\nLunch 12:00 – 1:00 PM \nUpcoming Dates:\nSaturday\, October 25th\, 2025\nSaturday\, December 6th\, 2025 \nBring your own lunch and water bottle! \nInstructor Bio: Rebecca A. Flis is interested in a wide range of artistic processes\, but her specialty is metal casting. While trained in traditional techniques of casting\, she has directed her exploration toward using non-traditional materials. This direction has led to more investigation into the sensory interaction of material and the relationship between texture and form in her work. Her academic credentials are a BFA with minors in Art Education and Art History from Alfred University [2014] and an MFA in sculpture from the University at Albany (SUNY) [2018]. Her work has been featured in many shows including Strange World\, a solo show\, at the Widlund Gallery in North Creek\, NY\, and Passing Time\, a three-person show\, at the Saratoga Arts Gallery in Saratoga\, NY\, as well as numerous group shows. Rebecca has led workshops on dung molding\, a form of natural mold-making used in some ancient casting processes\, in New York\, Alabama\, and even Latvia. In the wake of the COVID-19 quarantine\, Rebecca has been spending her time rediscovering her love for 2D media \nThere is a 25% cancellation fee for all workshops and classes if requested with two weeks of prior notice. Deposits and payments are nonrefundable within two weeks of the scheduled date.
