SUMMARY:Saving Family Mementos:Part 2 Emergency Preparedness
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever played the ‘what if’ game\, where you’re asked to decide what you would grab if you had to leaver your house quickly? Would photos be on your short list? Which ones? Are they someplace where you could gather them quickly or are they scattered throughout your house? Or do you even know where they are?\nLearn about creating a “Go Bag of Memories\,” including what to use to make your memories portable\, how to decide what to include\, and where to keep it ‘just in case.’\nCarolynn Duffy\, through her business\, Kinship Matters\, is a genealogist and photo organizer in Washington County\, with fifteen years professional experience helping to create a rich and complete legacy for clients and their family\, through researching\, documenting\, preserving\, and archiving clients’ personal histories\, photos\, heirlooms\, and memorabilia. She knows firsthand how irreplaceable and meaningful photos can be; how important it is for them to be organizedand labeled in order to keep them from becoming a pile of strangers in a box; and how critical where they are stored is to keeping them safe\, accessible\, and preserved for now and future generations. She also knows what it’s like to inherit objects that family referred to as “heirlooms\,” but to have no idea of the meaning behind the memento.\nREGISTRATION REQUIRED: mcarll@sals.edu or 518-854-7463 or bancroftlibrary.org

Flis is interested in a wide range of artistic processes\, but her specialty is metal casting. While trained in traditional techniques of casting\, she has directed her exploration toward using non-traditional materials. This direction has led to more investigation into the sensory interaction of material and the relationship between texture and form in her work. Her academic credentials are a BFA with minors in Art Education and Art History from Alfred University [2014] and an MFA in sculpture from the University at Albany (SUNY) [2018]. Her work has been featured in many shows including Strange World\, a solo show\, at the Widlund Gallery in North Creek\, NY\, and Passing Time\, a three-person show\, at the Saratoga Arts Gallery in Saratoga\, NY\, as well as numerous group shows. Rebecca has led workshops on dung molding\, a form of natural mold-making used in some ancient casting processes\, in New York\, Alabama\, and even Latvia. In the wake of the COVID-19 quarantine\, Rebecca has been spending her time rediscovering her love for 2D media \nThere is a 25% cancellation fee for all workshops and classes if requested with two weeks of prior notice.
