SACC BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING 11.14.16
McCartee’s Barn. Present: Tammy Butler, Sue Clary, Jay Kerr, Lynne Kerr, Joan Lowe, Seth Pitts, Angela Sturgis.
President Sue Clary waited until 5:08 PM to call the meeting to order in hopes of achieving a quorum of directors before asking our guest, Town Supervisor Seth Pitts, to speak to us and answer questions. We did not reach the quorum, so minutes and reports could not be approved.
Supervisor Pitts had been a scheduled speaker for our September meeting, but was called away at noon that day to oversee the operation of the school cafeteria. In our October meeting, Charlie Duveen suggested we re-invite Seth to the November meeting.
Knowing the interest of the business community in a Main Street sewer, the supervisor gave us an update. Though they had prepared the grant application last year that was turned down by the state, the Laberge Group once again wrote a new application. This year, Laberge and local government officials participated in a phone meeting with the office of the commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conservation and addressed the state’s suggestions to make the application stronger. While our application has the support of State Senator Betty Little and Assembly Member Carrie Woerner, Seth assured us the the DEC is an independent office and is not subject to political pressure.
The town has committed funds for twenty percent of the $30,000 study should we receive the state grant.
We thanked Seth and he moved on to another meeting.
We discussed plans for holiday decorations and our parade [held on Saturday, November 26, at 1 PM.]
An ad for the parade appeared in the Manchester Holiday Guide that came in the Free Press on November 18. Trees for Main Street Area decoration were donated by Ken Thompson. To the best of their recollection, Sue and Tammy Butler reported that the trees were harvested by Kevin Baylor, Jeremiah Johnson, Peter Dunham, Christopher Barrett, Joe Susee. They were set to be delivered to fourteen businesses by the town under the supervision of Eric Rogers, who formerly performed the task for the village.
Sue asked for help in preparing signs for the chambers entry in the parade, working at Jacko’s after the meeting. [Members and guests carried signs touting member businesses during the parade.]
Sue, Angela Sturgis, and Jay Kerr reported the success of the Mannix Marketing Seminar in October, and Sue expressed a desire to host social networking sessions for chamber members in the near future.
The meeting ended at 5:55 PM. The next meeting will be held at McCartee’s Barn on Monday, December 12. [Snow Day at school caused meeting to be postponed until December 19.]
Jay Kerr, Secretary
