2009 Salem’s HarvestFest
Draws Hundreds to Community Celebration

SALEM, NY — Salem ’s second annual HarvestFest drew hundreds of locals and tourists to its day long community celebration on September 12. HarvestFest was sponsored by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. Hundreds of volunteers contributed their time and effort to making the day a success.

The HarvestFest Marketplace hosted over 40 local vendors selling everything from jewelry to local cheese to arts and antiques. Children and adults rode a mechanical bull and visited with goats and other farm animals.

The Farm to Fork dinner was entirely sourced from local producers. Over two hundred guests feasted on roast pig, grass-fed beef, potatoes and corn grown in Salem , and dessert made with local raspberries. The dinner was followed by a barn dance to live bluegrass music. BlueGrassic Park , Dirty Old Strings and Moe Harrington and the White Chapel Band played until 10:00 pm.

A silent auction of items donated by local businesses and artists helped raise money for the Chamber’s Crisis Fund for families in need.

The Chamber wishes to thank all those who participated in this community event.

This volunteer effort would have been impossible without the contributions of so many local businesses, individuals, volunteer firefighters and musicians.

Special thanks also go to TD Banknorth, Glens Falls National Bank and the Salem Tavern for sponsoring the event, and to Sheldon Farms, Royce Atwater Farm and Gardenworks for generous donations of local produce.
