Dorset Theatre Festival Since the 1970's the Dorset Theatre Festival, founded by Jill Charles and John Nassivera, has served as a launching ground for new playwrights, a training ground for new talent, and home for a truly beloved group of theatre professionals who helped make DTF the fixture it has become for these past 35 years. Since 2001, and a $3 million restoration to the building, DTF has continued to thrive and prosper. Summer 2010 the Dorset Theatre Festival marks its 35th year anniversary with an exciting new Artistic Director, Dina Janis. A director and actress, Dina has been a member of the Drama Faculty at Bennington College in VT for the past 10 years. Dina has worked in collaboration with Philip Seymour Hoffman's Labyrinth Theatre Company in NYC as an actor and director for the past 5 years. The Dorset Theatre Festival runs from June 30 to September 5 with shows on Wednesday through Sunday. The schedule includes The Pavilion, June 30 - July 11; Fallen Angels, July 14-26; Murder on the Nile, July 28 - August 15; The Novelist, August 18-29; When Something Wonderful Ends, September 1-5; and Fantastic Mr. Fox July 10 - August 14, Saturdays only at 2pm. Courthouse Community Garden An enthusiastic group of individuals have come together under the Historic Salem Courthouse Preservation Association to plant a community garden on a parcel of land adjacent to the Courthouse Community Center . The goal of the Courthouse Community Gardens is to grow food for the Salem Food Pantry, build connections with nature and food from our region, and build community within our community. The Courthouse Community Garden is looking for volunteers to help plant and develop this year’s crops. An hour or two of your time would make a difference.
